Mark Hamill Almost Uprooted His Life After Trump’s Reelection

The “Star Wars” icon and staunch Trump critic opened up about his plan in an interview with The Times of London published on Saturday, revealing how he considered the expat life before his wife, Marilou York, shrewdly convinced him against it.

After Hamill proposed relocating from Southern California to London or Ireland, his partner of five decades let him sit on the decision before weighing in herself.

“She’s very clever,” Hamill recalled. “She didn’t respond right away, but a week later, she said, ‘I’m surprised you would allow him to force you out of your own country.’ That son of a bitch, I thought. I’m not leaving.”

While he decided to stay put, the man behind Luke Skywalker was still unsparing in his criticism for the president.

“The bullying, the incompetence, the people in place … The only way I can deal with it without going crazy and wanting to open my veins in a warm tub is to look at it like a thick, sprawling political novel,” he vented to The Times.

Seeing some dark humor in the situation, however, Hamill added, “It’s entertaining in a way because this could actually be the end. Our status in the world has been crippled and that will reverberate for decades.”

“Making Canada a 51st state? Do you know how offensive that is?” he asked. “And then taking over Greenland and renaming the Gulf of Mexico. The distractions are hilarious.”

But Hamill saw a glimmer of hope, also telling The Times, “I still believe there are more honest, decent people than there are the MAGA crowd. If I didn’t, I’d move back to England.”

The day after the election was decided, the sci-fi star turned to the internet with a sobering message about his home country.

“They say we get the leaders we deserve,” he wrote on X. “Either that has just been disproven, or this is not the America we all thought we were living in.”
