Margot Robbie and Dakota Johnson Both Wore Naked Dresses

For most people, the autumnal changing of the leaves means it’s time to bundle up in wool sweaters and chunky scarves, leaving not a single patch of skin vulnerable to the elements. But if you’re a movie star with a new project to promote, now is the time to bare all. Keeping with this year’s trend of semi-nude fashion, Thursday marked a tale of two naked dresses: Dakota Johnson and Margot Robbie both showed up to separate film premieres wearing, well, not much.

In London, Robbie wore a see-through Armani Prive gown to the European premiere of A Big Bold Beautiful Journey. The dress was beaded head-to-toe and seemingly held up by one large diamond medallion placed at the center of Robbie’s back. For undergarments, she opted for a very tiny sparkly thong.

A few hours later, Johnson walked the red carpet in New York at the Kering Foundation’s Caring for Women Dinner, wearing a sheer floor-length Gucci gown covered in black lace. Other than that, only a Fleur du Mal balconette bra and cheeky panties stood between her and the elements. Technically, the dress had long sleeves and a turtleneck cut, so you could say this one was actually very autumn-appropriate.

We’ve seen quite a few sheer dresses on red carpets lately — last Sunday, Nikki Glaser, Gabby Windey, Sabrina Carpenter, and Zara Larsson all showed up to the VMAs with their lingerie prominently featured. It is a very effective promo strategy for upscale underwear brands. I bet Victoria’s Secret is clamoring to be included.
