Marc Guéhi Expected to Remain at Crystal Palace

Though a deal sheet was submitted for the Crystal Palace captain, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has reported that Marc Guehi is expected not to move despite an agreement in place and a passed medical. Palace was able to get young French centerback Jaydee Canvot in on deadline day, but the 19-year-old is reportedly not on his own considered enough cover for the club captain.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner was firm in his wish to retain Guehi should adequate cover not materialize, and with Igor Julio diverted to West Ham instead of Palace the Eagles are short at the back.

Guehi’s contract is up at the end of the season, and could move to Liverpool as a free agent at that time — and of course the January window remains a possibility.

The reported failed agreement was at £35 million. Though Palace chairman Steve Parish purportedly favored the sale for economic reasons, Glasner would probably argue that the captain’s value in staying at the club should be a factor.
