BATON ROUGE (TNND) — A Louisiana man missed Powerball’s massive $1.1B jackpot by just one number.
But all was not lost, as John Stokes still won $150,000, according to the Louisiana Lottery.
We were shocked and feel so blessed,” Stokes said in the release.
Stokes, who lives in DeRidder, bought the ticket on Monday. He said he and his family were headed to bed that night when they ended up checking the winning numbers.
That’s when they realized they matched four of the white ball numbers, as well as the red Powerball number. He also added the Power Play option, which tripled his winnings.
Stokes and his loved ones claimed his prize on Tuesday at the Lottery’s Alexandria regional office. A photo shows them smiling with the check.
We always love seeing our loyal players, like Mr. Stokes, win big,” Rose Hudson, who is the Louisiana Lottery president, said in the release. “We are excited to see more Louisiana winners come forward during this exciting and historic Powerball Jackpot run.”
As of Saturday afternoon, the Powerball jackpot climbed to $1.80 billion. It has an estimated cash value of $826.4 million.
The jackpot marks the second-largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history. The world record $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot won in California in 2022.

The drawing will be broadcast live Saturday night at 10:59 p.m. ET from the Florida Lottery draw studio. It will also be live streamed on Powerball.com.
