Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik Reunite for Netflix Road Trip Series

Former One Direction stars Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik have reunited for a U.S. road trip documentary series for Netflix, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The series will be directed by Nicola Marsh, who also helmed the Demi Lovato documentary Child Star, as well as Song Exploder and Stay on Board: The Leo Baker Story. Tomlinson and Malik, who has a home in Pennsylvania, on their American travels are expected to discuss the tragic death of fellow One Direction band member Liam Payne, along with their own lives and careers.

The Netflix docuseries, likely to launch on the streamer in 2026, will be produced by Campfire Studios, which also worked on Unknown Number: The High School Catfish, Smartless: On the Road and America’s Sweethearts: The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

A year ago, Payne died after falling from the third floor of a hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31. In 2015, news that Malik was no longer a member of One Direction was followed the eventual split of the Brit boy band whose former members include Harry Styles and Niall Horan.

Neither Styles or Horan are expected to make appearances in the Netflix docuseries, which aims to attract legions of One Direction fans globally to the streaming platform. The Brit band were discovered by Simon Cowell and former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger during the 2010 season of The X Factor.

They enjoyed the support of One Direction fans like James Corden, David Beckham and 5 Seconds of Summer. The Brit group went on to become a global sensation, becoming one of the best-selling boy bands of all time.

Campfire Studio’s Ross Dinerstein and Rebecca Evans will executive produce the docuseries.
