Long-rumoured Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Remake could set sail before April

It looks like we could be seeing Ubisoft’s long-rumoured Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Remake set sail really rather soon.

Earlier today, Ubisoft released its delayed financials. Here, the company laid out its slate of upcoming games, all of which are set to arrive before the end of its current financial year. That means, by 31st March, 2026.

The company mentions an “unannounced title”, which is planned for a release in the fourth quarter of its 2025-2026 fiscal year. Many now suspect this is indeed the remake of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag.

“Anno 117: Pax Romana launched on November 13 with a Metacritic rating of 85. Assassin’s Creed Mirage Valley of Memory update launched on November 18. Avatar Frontiers of Pandora From the Ashes expansion will release on December 19, coinciding with the new movie. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, Rainbow Six Mobile, The Division Resurgence and an unannounced title are planned for Q4,” the financials read.

This unannounced title also cropped up in Ubisoft’s investor’s presentation, with the mysterious game replaced with a blank box (see below).

Earlier this year, Black Flag actor Matt Ryan again suggested Ubisoft was set to release a remake of its piratical Assassin’s Creed entry. Ryan – who played Edward Kenway in Black Flag – hinted not very subtly to one fan they should perhaps get ready to replay the game, implying with a bit of a ‘wink, wink, nudge, nudge’ that the remake was indeed real. Ubisoft then threatened the actor with legal action following his remake slip-up.

More recently in September, French outlet Jeuxvideo reported Black Flag’s modern day sections have been removed from Ubisoft’s upcoming remake.

So, should all this lead to a potentially imminent release of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag’s remake, will you be jumping back aboard with Edward and co?

Elsewhere in franchise news, earlier this year Assassin’s Creed’s then-boss Marc-Alexis Côté left Ubisoft, following the formation of the Tencent-funded subsidiary. Soon after his departure from Ubisoft, Côté clarified that while he was offered another role within the company, it did not “carry the same scope, mandate, or continuity with the work [he] had been entrusted with”.
