A long-awaited PS5 action adventure game has been delayed yet again, leaving players disappointed. Pearl Abyss has announced that Crimson Desert, which Sony allegedly tried to strike an exclusivity deal for, has been pushed out of 2025. It’ll now release sometime in the first quarter of 2026.
PS5 action adventure game Crimson Desert was announced in 2020
Announced as a follow-up to Black Desert, Crimson Desert is a single-player game for current-gen platforms. It was announced in 2020, and has since suffered multiple delays.
This time, Pearl Abyss blames the process of voice-overs, console certifications, and other issues for the delay.
In a Q&A session during its Q2 2025 earnings conference call (thanks, Gematsu), Pearl Abyss said that Crimson Desert is its first large-scale AAA console game. Its delay was “unavoidable” because of “longer than expected timelines arising from schedule coordination and collaborations with multiple partners for offline distribution, voice-overs, console certification, and other launch preparations.”
“We sincerely apologize for not being able to meet the originally promised fourth quarter launch schedule,” Pearl Abyss added. “Please kindly understand that this is a strategic decision aimed at insuring success on a meaningful scale.”
As for when a new release date will be announced, Pearl Abyss said that it’ll share something at an “appropriate time,” and asked fans not to expect anything on that front at Gamescom 2025.
