Greece stays ahead with bronze medal on the line

Greece is up 69-56 after three quarters, chasing their first EuroBasket bronze medal since 2009, and the third in the country’s history.

The Greeks first won the EuroBasket bronze medal in 1949 — the first time the country participated in the tournament.

Greece extends lead into half, through Finland flashes

Greece took a 48-34 lead into halftime behind continued inspired play by Giannis (16 pts, 8 reb, 4 ast, 2 blk).

But Finland showed sparks in the second quarter, especially Miikka Muurinen, who threw down a series of powerful slams.

Greece leads Finland 22-13 after the first quarter, led by Giannis Antentokoumpo (6 pts, 4 reb, 3 ast, 2 blk) and former Atlanta Hawk Tyler Dorsey (9 pts).

The Greek defense held Finland to 31% shooting in the quarter, helped by this swat from Antentokoumpo.

Germany, led by Dennis Schröder and Franz Wagner, will take on Turkey, led by Alperen Sengun, in the 2025 EuroBasket final on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET in Riga, Latvia.

Schröder had 26 points and 12 assists in Germany’s victory over Finland in the semifinals, leading the country back to a major international final. He was the 2023 FIBA World Cup MVP as Germany took home that trophy. On Sunday, he has the opportunity to come up big again for his homeland.

Sengun has been one of the best players in this year’s EuroBasket tournament. The Houston Rockets star has flourished as the leader for this Turkish squad and delivered with an emphatic performance in their win over Greece in the semifinals.

Germany last won the EuroBasket gold medal in 1993 and last reached the final in 2005. Turkey has never won the tournament, but finished as runners-up in 2001.

Who will take home the crown in one of Europe’s premier basketball competitions?

Before the final, Greece will take on Finland at 10 a.m. ET Sunday for the bronze medal.
