Country music singer Lee Greenwood is ready to take on the honor of performing at Super Bowl LX.
After the NFL announced last month that Bad Bunny will headline next year’s Super Bowl halftime show, many in President Donald Trump’s base slammed the decision, with some pointing to his outspoken criticism of the president and his policies. The outrage had made its way to Trump — who called the move “absolutely ridiculous.”
“I never heard of him,” Trump said on Newsmax’s “Greg Kelly Reports” earlier this week. “I don’t know who he is, I don’t know why they’re doing it, it’s crazy, and then they blame it on some promoter that they hired to pick up entertainment.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson also took aim at Bad Bunny, one of the most widely streamed artists in the world, and suggested that the Puerto Rican superstar should be replaced with Greenwood.
“I didn’t even know who Bad Bunny was, but it sounds like a terrible decision in my view,” Johnson told reporters, adding: “Well, it sounds like he’s not someone who appeals to a broader audience. And I think, you know, there’s so many eyes on the Super Bowl. A lot of young, impressionable children.”
Greenwood appears on board with Johnson’s choice — telling several outlets on Thursday that he would “make a great performer for any Super Bowl show.”
“I perform for various NFL teams every year, especially during their Salute To Service games,” Greenwood wrote in a statement. “As a matter of fact, I will be doing halftime for the Dallas Cowboys during Monday Night Football on November 3rd. Football is one of America’s most watched sports, and I am always thrilled to perform the anthem or ‘God Bless The U.S.A.’ during the games.”
He continued: “Maybe the NFL will have me perform this year at the Super Bowl prior to the game to have a stadium full of football fans singing ‘God Bless The U.S.A.’ to kick-off the game!”
Greenwood, 82, has been a familiar face within MAGA circles. He recently performed at the memorial service for late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, as well as during Trump’s presidential inauguration in January.
Trump and Greenwood have also sold their own “God Bless The USA Bible,” based on the lyrics of his 1984 iconic song. The original version of the Bible is endorsed by Trump, but not signed, according to its online storefront.
Bad Bunny is scheduled to perform at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Feb. 8. He previously said that performing on the NFL’s stage is a moment that “goes beyond myself.”
“It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history,” Bad Bunny said in a statement.
Bad Bunny first sparked backlash among conservatives after indicating that he would not bring his recent tour to the United States due to concerns of ICE raids. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has maintained that federal agents will be “all over” the upcoming Super Bowl.
Turning Point USA, the conservative youth organization founded by Kirk, also announced on X on Thursday that it will host its own “The All American Halftime Show” on the same day.
“Performers and event details coming soon,” the account posted.
