We’ve already seen pretty much all there is to see about the Pixel 10 series, but now a new pair of leaks are more clearly showing of the base Pixel 10 and the Pixel 10 Pro, and offering a pretty clear picture of what’s glossy and what’s matte on these devices.
As was abundantly clear in yesterday’s official Pixel 10 Pro teaser, Google’s flagship duo will be using the same matte glass and glossy side rails as the Pixel 9 Pro duo last year. While not everyone is a fan of glossy side rails, it does give off a premium look on the whole, and it’s obviously nice to see Google sticking with matte glass along the back.
We can see that from a few more angles in leaked images posted by Android Headlines. These images show off the black “Obsidian” colorway, which is slightly tweaked from last year, though it keeps the same name. The reflections seen in the camera bar in particular, show that this is a glossy frame.
Meanwhile, in a separate post, we get a look at the “Frost” variant of the base Pixel 10 that looks just like the prior generation.
Specifically, we can see that the frame is clearly matte, but the backplate certainly looks glossy based on the subtle reflections we can see around the glass next to the camera bar, with that same effect not being visible on the Pixel 10 Pro renders.
The report claims that Google is “sticking with the same matte finish on the back” but, obviously, that’s false as the base Pixel 9 was glossy on the back glass across all four variants. It’s not the first incorrect description we’ve seen across these Pixel leaks, so we’re pretty confident that the base Pixel 10 is indeed glossy on the back based on these images.
While it’s not been pictured to the same extent, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold seems to continue with last year’s pattern in offering matte glass and matte side rails, the combination everyone seems to want. Alas, hopefully we’ll see that next time around.
Google is set to launch the Pixel 10 series on August 20, and just as the leaks keep coming, so are Google’s official teasers.
