Latest One UI 8 beta update adds Now Brief to Galaxy S24

The Galaxy S24 has suffered the same fate as every other generation-old device, while the Galaxy S25 has had access to Samsung’s Now Brief. Now Brief, the company’s dynamic AI-powered status notification, is now available on the Galaxy S24 series through a One UI 8 beta update.

Now Brief, for all of the grief given to it for feeling half-baked, is slowly taking on improvements. Third-party apps are in the pipeline, beyond Samsung’s own apps, seeing real estate on One UI 8’s lockscreen. The feature allows for apps to display status through the lock screen’s Now Bar widget without taking up notification space.

In theory, it’s a great solution that has bled into other variations of Android, like Android 16’s Magic Cue on the Pixel 10.

Spotted by Android Authority, the Galaxy S24 series now looks to have access to Now Brief, where the feature was missing in previous beta versions of Samsung’s OS. The addition means the Galaxy S24 has access to the permanent lock screen widget.

The update itself fixes a few bugs on the device, as is expected for a beta update.

After installing, Samsung’s Now Brief onboarding screen appears and allows users to enable the feature. It explains that Now Brief is locally processed through the Galaxy AI suite.

Currently, the feature still favors Samsung’s own apps, pulling data from the weather app and your calendar. In the future, we’re expecting to see more app suggestions, like ride share status and other useful bits of information. We’ve been critical of the Now Brief feature in the past, and there is plenty of work ahead that requires the inclusion of third-party apps. Without it, the feature feels closed off.

As this is the beta version of One UI 8, there’s no official Now Brief availability for the Galaxy S24 series. That should become available when Samsung’s official build is made public.
