Lakers’ LeBron James Teases ‘The Second Decision’ on Oct. 7 amid NBA Retirement Rumors

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is set for a major announcement on Tuesday amid ongoing rumors regarding his retirement timeline.

On Monday, James released a video on social media teasing that “The Second Decision” is coming on Oct. 7 at 12 p.m. ET.

James, who is entering his 23rd year in the NBA, shocked the basketball world in the 2010 offseason when he held “The Decision” to announce that he was departing the Cleveland Cavaliers to sign with the Miami Heat. The event was broadcast on ESPN from the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich, Connecticut, and raised a total of $6 million for charities, but it drew criticism for how James portrayed himself, particularly his quip that he was “taking my talents to South Beach.”

James later admitted that he regretted his handling of “The Decision,” so it’s interesting that he would invoke the memory of the ill-fated event for Tuesday’s announcement.

Still, James is nearing the end of his legendary career, so he could use the moment to discuss the details of when he will finally hang up his sneakers. He spoke about retirement last month and made it clear that he will make the announcement on his own time.

“I’m not hinting at anything,” James said during an appearance on 360 With Speedy. “Obviously, I know I’m on the other side of the hump, for sure. Come on now, I’m not about to play another 23 years, that’s for damn sure, and I’m not about to play another 10. I’m definitely gearing up to where the end is, I’m not there yet.”

“The Second Decision” may or may not be basketball-related, so while fans wonder what James will announce, the anticipation will build as Tuesday afternoon approaches.
