Lakers immediately won over Luka Doncic by embracing person the Mavericks wouldn’t

The Los Angeles Lakers have always been a tight-knit organization. Those values and their willingness to extend that kindness to Luka Doncic allowed them to immediately win over their newest superstar.

Doncic probably had a lot of mixed feelings after being traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Lakers. However, his new organization did their part to reassure him of his importance, leading to there being no doubt about whether the Slovenian superstar would commit long-term.

Not only did the Lakers give Doncic the type of contract that the Mavericks absolutely wouldn’t, but they made him and his people a valued part of the inner workings in Los Angeles. That included making Lara Beth Seager, Luka’s business manager, a part of the franchise.

“She is essentially an extension of the Lakers organization at this point, which is the polar opposite of Luka’s last year in Dallas,” Tim MacMahon reported on an episode of The Hoop Collective.

Lakers’ business approach allowed Luka Doncic to be family immediately

Many may cringe at the idea of a workplace calling themselves a family. Those chills down the spine would be completely valid too. However, in this case, the Lakers operating with that approach has clearly helped them get to where they needed to.

Los Angeles was rapidly approaching a bleak future in life after LeBron James. As soon as they got Doncic, they changed that. Granted, that fact was contingent on Luka staying with the team for the long haul. This move was certainly a part of that equation that should not get overlooked.

The Lakers have a strong history of allowing their superstars to have a role behind the scenes with what goes on. Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron are just a few prime examples of players whose stardom has allowed for their voice to be heard in the front office.

Doncic was the next in line for that honor. The Lakers played their part, and Luka has too.

The Lakers superstar point guard had a big role in helping recruit the likes of Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart to Los Angeles this summer. Both of those signings positioned the franchise to bolster their competitiveness in the short-term by patching up the previously abysmal depth.

Doncic is also poised to make yet another massive financial commitment to the Lakers after this current extension. The Lakers have Luka at the forefront of their team for the foreseeable future. Gestures like the one extended to Seager have undoubtedly aided in ensuring that.
