Lady Gaga Releases New Song ‘The Dead Dance’ in ‘Wednesday’ Season 2

[This story contains spoilers for Wednesday season two, part two.]

To coincide with her debut in Netflix‘s Wednesday, Lady Gaga has officially dropped her new song, “The Dead Dance,” alongside a Tim Burton-directed music video Wednesday morning.

The single was released on music streamers Wednesday morning, in addition to premiering in episode 7 in season two, part two of the Jenna Ortega-led show. Lady Gaga’s new music comes months after she released her seventh studio album, Mayhem, in March.

The song itself was co-written by Gaga, Andrew Watt and Henry Walter and co-produced by Gaga, Watt and Cirkut, who worked extensively with her on Mayhem. “The Dead Dance” appears in season 2 episode 7, “Woe Me the Money,” during an extended dance sequence with Enid (Emma Myers) and Agnes (Evie Templeton).

The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that Lady Gaga’s new song would come with a Tim Burton-directed music video. The video, shot mostly in black and white, opens with Gaga posted on a wall beside dozens of creepy dolls, with the singer emerging with a seizure-like dance that evokes the image of a corpse reanimating.

“Like the words of a song, I hear you call, like a thief in my head, you criminal,” Gaga sings in the track’s opening lines. Watch the full video below.

In addition to her song, the “Abracadabra” singer also made a guest appearance in part two of the new season. She plays a ghost of Rosaline Rotwood, a Raven and former teacher at Nevermore Academy.

In episode six, titled “Woe Thyself,” Wednesday (Ortega) is determined to get in contact with Rotwood as she searches for ways to regain her psychic ability. However, Rotwood’s help comes with a price, leading to Wednesday and Enid (Emma Myers) switching bodies. The pair must quickly gain a truer understanding of one another or face death.
