Although Louisiana’s Jourdan Blue didn’t win the $1 million top prize on the “America’s Got Talent” finale Wednesday night, he did have a million-dollar moment.
Let’s flash back to the New Orleans street performer’s “AGT” audition, which aired in May. He chose to sing “Breakeven,” the heartbreaking 2008 song by Irish pop rockers The Script.
Judge Mel B (the former Spice Girls’ Scary Spice) called Blue’s performance perfect. Judge Simon Cowell (“American Idol,” “The X Factor US”) heaped on praise, judge-comedian Howie Mandel (“Deal or No Deal”) gave him the coveted “golden buzzer,” and his journey on the NBC talent competition series was on.
Surviving the quarter-finals and semi-finals, Blue, 24, sailed into finale night, where not just the winner is named, but also when the finalists have a chance to share the stage with one of the pros, in this case The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue.
And there you have the million-dollar moment — Blue and O’Donoghue duetting to “Breakeven.”
Later in the two-hour show, Blue reached the top five before eventually being announced as the third-place winner by America’s vote.
“It’s been a long journey to get here. All glory to God,” Blue said before leaving the stage.
During his audition, Blue shared that he had been through homelessness and other personal struggles.
Jessic Sanchez, 30, took home the $1 million and gained a chance to headline a Las Vegas show. No stranger to competing, Sanchez, of Chula Vista, California, was runner-up on Season 11 of “American Idol.”
British comedian Chris Turner, 36, Manchester, United Kingdom, finished in second place.
