Kyle McCord waived: Eagles reportedly cut rookie quarterback

McCord was the Birds’ seventh pick (a sixth-round selection at No. 181 overall) in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Mount Laurel, New Jersey native was drafted to realistically compete with Dorian Thompson-Robinson for the emergency third quarterback role.

Though McCord occasionally showed some upside, his downs were more frequent than his ups. By the conclusion of the Eagles’ third and final preseason game, it was apparent that he couldn’t be trusted to play meaningful snaps in 2025. He’s just not ready for that yet, if he’ll ever be.

The Eagles could have interest in signing McCord to their practice squad. The question is if he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed. The feeling here is that teams won’t be rushing to clear a roster spot for him … but we’ll see.
