Kroger has confirmed plans to close 60 stores across the U.S. within the next 18 months, according to its first quarter 2025 sales report. The closures, which will begin shortly, represent only 2% of Kroger’s total 2,731 stores at the start of the fiscal year. Interim CEO Ron Sargent revealed during a conference call that the unprofitable stores are scattered nationwide.
Despite these closures, Kroger reaffirmed its commitment to invest between $3.6 billion and $3.8 billion in capital expenditures this year, including expansion and renovation projects. The company also assured that all associates currently employed at the closing locations would be offered other positions within the company.
Local news outlets and USA Today have confirmed the following Kroger locations will be closing this month: Georgia, Illinois, Virginia, and West Virginia.
