Calvin Kattar can’t seem to catch a break in the UFC.
UFC Nashville took place Saturday night with a 12-fight card headlined by heavyweight knockout king Derrick Lewis and the 6’7″ Tallison Teixeira.
The Fight Night event is top-heavy, with former headliners littering the main card from karate specialist Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson in the co-main event to boxer Calvin Kattar, who’s went the five-round distance with the likes of BMF Champion Max Holloway.
Once a top-5 contender in the UFC, the #14-ranked featherweight fighter had the worst losing skid of his career extended on Saturday.
Steve Garcia drops Calvin Kattar en route to fifth-straight win
A passing-of-the-torch moment took place in the featherweight division.
Considered one of the best boxers in the weight class, the heavy-handed Kattar was beaten by rising prospect Steve ‘Mean Machine’ Garcia at his own game.
Garcia had finished his last four fights by knockout, almost making it five with a knockdown with Kattar in round 3. Also known for his durability, Kattar survived the exchange and reached the final bell.
Garcia landed three times the amount of strikes Kattar did and won a clean-cut unanimous decision on the judges’ scorecards—Kattar’s fifth-straight loss.
The victory snapped Garcia’s four-fight finish streak.
Who all did Calvin Kattar lose to?
At 37, Kattar is on the brink of losing his top-15 UFC ranking.
However, it’s not like Kattar has been fighting unranked opposition like Garcia the past few fights. In fact, Kattar has fought top contenders for the majority of his career, losing to the best of them.
Kattar lost out on a potential title shot when he was dominated by Max Holloway in 2021. Kattar bounced back with a win over Giga Chikadze in 2022. This is his latest win.
Kattar’s five-fight losing skid includes defeats to Josh Emmett, Arnold Allen, former champion Aljamain Sterling, Youssef Zalal, and now, Steve Garcia.
