KFC finally bringing back potato wedges after years of fan requests

KFC is bringing back its potato wedges on August 18, five years after removing them from the menu.

At the time, the chain replaced the wedges with Secret Recipe Fries, marking the first time in decades that fries became the standard side for KFC in the US. The change sparked backlash from customers who had considered the seasoned potato wedges a signature item.

Now, after years of fan pressure, including social media campaigns, petitions, and test runs in select markets like Tampa, the wedeges are making a return.

It’s part of KFC’s “Kentucky Fried Comeback” strategy, aimed at reconnecting with customers and reviving popular items. Alongside the wedges, the chain is also bringing back its Hot & Spicy Wings, made with a bold marinade and double hand-breading.

KFC says both items will be available across the United States for a limited time, starting August 18, 2025.

KFC brings back wedges after fan demand

According to the company, fan feedback played a central role in the decision, with potato wedges consistently ranking among the most-requested menu items since their removal.

“Wedge-lovers, we heard you—and we agree it’s been five long years without wedges. But the wait is over,” said Catherine Tan-Gillespie, President, KFC U.S., in a statement shared with Parade. “This isn’t just a nostalgic nod. It’s an example of how we’re turning feedback into action as we chart our Kentucky Fried Comeback, a bold,brand-wide rally to give people more reasons to fall in love with us all over again.”

KFC isn’t the first company to bring back an item based on user feedback this year, either. Back in December, McDonald’s revealed that years of fans requesting the Snack Wrap return led to their decision to bring it back in July.
