Kate Middleton dropped jaws after debuting a bold hair transformation in new photos from an outing with her husband, Prince William.
On Sunday, Aug. 24, the Princess of Wales, 43, was photographed while riding in the passenger seat of their Range Rover as Prince William, also 43, drove to a Sunday church service at Crathie Kirk near Balmoral. Their three children—Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7—sat in the back seat.
For the occasion, the mom of three donned a dark berry-colored coat with a matching hat, accessorizing with drop earrings. The most notable part of her look, however, was that she rocked a hair color many shades lighter than her typical, rich brunet shade.

Prince William, meanwhile, opted for a dark suit with a light blue patterned tie, as Princess Charlotte donned a cream-colored cardigan over a polka-dot dress.

Other members of the Royal Family were also spotted making their way to Crathie Kirk, with King Charles and Queen Camilla being driven in the back of a royal vehicle.

Similarly, King Charles III and his wife, Queen Camilla, were spotted on their way to attend the service at Crathie Kirk Church. The British monarch, 76, wore a dark suit with a light pink undershirt and a tartan tie. Camilla, 78, chose a colorful, printed dress with a cream wrap and a feathered hat for the Sunday excursion.
Last week, Princess Anne also attended the church service while rocking a bright turquoise look. (Prince Edward, 61, joined, too.) The Princess Royal recently revealed a hairstyle change of her own just in time for her 75th birthday.
Middleton’s hair transformation came amid the royal family’s annual summer retreat to Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It’s the only time aside from Christmas when the royal family all gathers together at the sprawling residence.
Although childhood photos have revealed that Middleton was naturally blond as a young child, she has mostly kept her tresses a light-to-medium brown as an adult. The Princess of Wales also turned heads in April after dyeing her tresses a slightly lighter color. But her August transformation is seemingly the blondest Middleton has gone as Prince William’s wife.
Speaking of royal hair, Middleton made a surprising prediction about her husband’s beard this time last year.
“These trends come and go,” she explained of Prince William’s scruffier look at the time, per Hello! magazine. “I was saying to my husband, I’m not sure how long he’s going to keep his for.”
