Former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe is opening up about the downside of “Dancing With the Stars.”
Bristowe, 40, won season 29 of “Dancing With the Stars” with partner Artem Chigvintsev in 2020. Five years later, she’s still feeling the toll the competition took on her body.
“I’m still suffering years later from cracked ribs and pulling a muscle that was under my ribs, and my tendonitis will flare up every time I wear heels now,” Bristowe said during a Wednesday, Sept. 10, appearance on Tori Spelling’s “misSPELLING” podcast. “But I’m like, ‘I’ll do it again.’”
The reality star noted that her friend and fellow Bachelor Nation alum Hannah Brown, who won season 28 of “DWTS” in 2019, didn’t warn her about what to expect.
“I was like, ‘Why did you not you prepare me?’ And [Hannah] was like, ‘I don’t think people should prepare, because then they won’t do it. … It’s so worth it, but it would be scary to know how much work and injury you go through to get to the end,’” Bristowe recalled.

Spelling, 52, who briefly competed on season 33 of the show with partner Pasha Pashkov, joked, “I was voted off first and I had pulled out my shoulder already.”
Despite Bristowe’s lingering ailments, she is “jealous” of the season 34 stars who are about to start their “DWTS” journey.
“[My season] was during COVID, so we didn’t have a live audience, and I’m like, ‘What does that feel like [to have] the energy in the room from the audience?’” she said. “I grew up dancing, so I felt like something was missing with the energy.”
Season 34 of “Dancing With the Stars” premieres on Tues, Sept. 16. This season’s cast includes comedian Andy Richter, Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles, actor Corey Feldman, and “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” stars Jen Affleck and Whitney Leavitt.
Bristowe joked that she thinks Affleck and Leavitt will go far because “all people from Utah can dance better than anyone I’ve ever met.”
“Dancing With the Stars” airs on ABC and Disney+ on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET beginning on Sept. 16. Episodes will be available to stream on Disney+ the day after they air.
