Last night, the Academy Museum Gala returned to Los Angeles for its fifth annual edition, drawing a crowd of Hollywood actors, Grammy-winning musicians, and supermodels. From newly weds Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco to Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Olivia Rodrigo, and Zoë Kravitz, the guest list was full of familiar faces—and photographer Sami Drasin got to work capturing them.
The Academy Museum Gala was founded to support the museum’s work preserving film history for generations to come, and this year, the glamorous event took inspiration from the newly installed Jaws exhibition. Capturing the theme’s feelings of underwater magic and the fluidity and movement of the ocean, Drasin set up a portrait studio on the red carpet to photograph guests in an ethereal light.
Additional attendees included Kaia Gerber, America Ferrera, Monica Barbaro, Demi Moore, Mikey Madison, Kim Kardashian, Emma Chamberlain, Sydney Sweeney, Ayo Edebiri, Charli XCX, and Dakota and Elle Fanning, who all walked the blue carpet in show-stopping runway looks, archival pieces, and custom ensembles alike.
Bruce Springsteen, who also performed for the crowd, was honored with the inaugural Legacy Award, and Penélope Cruz received the Icon Award for her global impact. Bowen Yang was recognized with the Vantage Award, and Walter Salles with the Luminary Award. By the end of the evening, the event had raised over $12 million.
