Now he’s in it?

We are now less than six months out from the Blake Lively–Wayfarer Studios trial, and there are still no signs of a settlement. You’d think that when It Ends With Us director/star Justin Baldoni and his producing partner, Jamey Heath, chose not to amend their defamation case, there was maybe a chance of a huge payout and no one ever speaking about it ever again. Wrong! Not only is this thing trudging along toward its March 2026 court date but there’s another new player involved: Rainn Wilson. From The Office? He’s not even in the movie. Well, apparently he is friends with Baldoni or at least friendly enough to have received a text about how annoying and mean Ryan Reynolds is.
In court documents obtained by People on November 13, Baldoni wrote to Wilson after a heated confrontation with Reynolds and Lively in January 2024. “Ryan was talking to me like a five-year-old and scolding me,” Baldoni wrote. “They essentially said that Jamey [Heath] and I are not who we claimed to be and that for us to have a podcast is unsafe because it makes people feel like we are safe.” That’s a new one. Per Reynolds (and possibly also Lively), it is “unsafe” for Baldoni to have a podcast because having a podcast on which he talks about masculinity convinces people that he is a safe person to be around. It’s funny to imagine a world where knowing a guy has a podcast makes anyone feel safe. Do you know someone with a podcast? They might talk about you on there!
Whether or not Wilson will get involved in the actual trial remains to be seen, but none of his responses were included in this new round of documents. For all we know, he may never have responded to Baldoni’s stressed-out texts. If nothing else, this latest update goes to show the depths of stupidity in the ongoing case — there has got to be a better way to vet someone than whether or not they have a podcast.
