Joshua Allen, ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ season 4 winner, dies at 36

The family of reality TV star Joshua Allen has confirmed that he has died. According to TMZ, a family member said Allen died on Tuesday, but declined to provide details surrounding Allen’s cause of death, asking for “privacy and prayers.”

Allen rose to fame in 2008 when he became the season 4 winner of the hit reality dance competition “So You Think You Can Dance.” Despite never having formal dance training, Allen signed up for the show. Only after having made it through multiple auditions did he receive any real training.

Still, Allen’s charisma and natural talent led him to winning the competition and a $250,000 prize. Following his success on the show, Allen appeared as a background dancer in a handful of projects including the remake of “Footloose” and on the TV show “Community.”

He was arrested in 2016 on a domestic violence charge and sentenced to one year in jail.

Allen was 36.
