One of the most expected moves that the Buffalo Bills made near the start of free agency was releasing future Hall of Fame edge rusher Von Miller. The Bills released Miller after just three seasons of a six-year deal due to inconsistency that was caused by a torn ACL in the middle of the 2022 season.
Miller was brought to Buffalo to be the missing piece that the Bills had been searching for to get past the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs. Instead, all that fans got was disappointment after a hot start by Miller through the first two months of his Bills tenure.
After waiting throughout the start of free agency and the summer, Miller signed with the Washington Commanders who are championship contenders after a surprising run they went on last year behind quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Now it should be no surprise that Miller signed with a true contender, but people may now know that one of the reasons why Miller wanted to sign with a championship contender was because of the influence that Josh Allen and the Bills had on Miller in terms of winning.
According to Mike Jones, Miller said he was “extremely intentional about coming to Washington.” He also noted “you can’t just leave Josh Allen. Can’t go from the AFC Championship and go anywhere.”

Josh Allen and Bills have created a winning culture in Buffalo for years to come
If last year didn’t prove that the Bills will be true championship contenders, I don’t know what will. Remember how the Bills supposedly lost a lot of power on both offense and defense, and people thought the Bills would take a step back? Well clearly, the opposite happened. The Bills averaged over 30 points per game with arguably less talent and they made it all the way to the conference championship.
Now with a revamped defense and a lot of continuity returning on offense for 2025, the Bills have the chance to finally get over the hump that they keep falling short at every year.
Miller’s comments prove to us that it’s hard to leave the Bills because they win and they win consistently. If a player leaves Buffalo, whether it’s because of being released or traded, the hope for that player should be that they land somewhere as good as Buffalo to make a run at the Super Bowl.
