John Cena’s showdown with Brock Lesnar isn’t happening at WWE Clash in Paris later this month — but it’s still on the table for later this year.
While speaking on the August 11 episode of Wrestling Observer Radio during a recap of SmackDown, Dave Meltzer explained that WWE is saving the blockbuster Cena vs. Lesnar match for the fall, most likely in September or October. Cena had been building a storyline that included an angle with Lesnar, so Meltzer admitted he was surprised to see WWE pivot toward Cena facing Logan Paul in Paris instead.
“Yeah, yeah. He mentioned he only had 11 dates left. He once again stated in what universe would I actually choose Brock Lesnar as an opponent? But I will not back down.”
Meltzer clarified that the change doesn’t mean the Lesnar bout is off — just that it’s been pushed back.
“They’re doing him and Logan Paul in Paris, which surprised me because the angle was with Lesnar. They are obviously going to do the Lesnar match October, November — no, not November, September, October, I believe… the Lesnar match for whatever reason they’re not doing in Paris.”
If WWE really is holding off on John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar until the fall, that means fans could be in for one of the biggest marquee matches of the year right as Cena winds down his farewell tour. With only a handful of dates left on his contract, every appearance is becoming must-see TV — and dropping “The Beast Incarnate” into the mix is guaranteed to turn the volume up to 11.
