Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale make a “monstrous” couple in the first teaser for “The Bride!,” director Maggie Gyllenhaal‘s punk rock take on “Bride of Frankenstein.”
The stylish, colorful, and bonkers first look at “The Bride” shows Buckley being revived and brought back to life as Frankenstein’s bride, with him at one point killing some men in her defense and saying “Till Death Do Us Part.”
While we got a completely different look at the film at CinemaCon back in April, both that first impression and this new one underscore how bold and bizarre Gyllenhaal’s take on the monster movie source material is.
The official synopsis reads: “A lonely Frankenstein (Bale) travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious (five-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening) to create a companion for him. The two revive a murdered young woman, and The Bride (Buckley) is born. What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A wild and radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!”
The film stars Buckley, Bale, Peter Sarsgaard, with Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penélope Cruz. For Maggie Gyllenhaal, this is just her second feature film after first directing the very different “The Lost Daughter,” and she’s directing from her own screenplay as well.
The film was produced by Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Talia Kleinhendler, and Osnat Handelsman Keren. The executive producers are Carla Raij, David Webb, and Courtney Kivowitz.
Here’s hoping that “The Bride!” is the latest in Warner Bros.‘ current hot streak of ambitious bets on filmmakers, capped by a year that has included “Sinners,” “Weapons,” and “One Battle After Another.” “The Bride!” will be presented in IMAX and hits North American theaters March 6, 2026.
Check out both a censored and an uncensored teaser, which, by our estimation, is just the subtitle “FUCKING” ahead of the word “BRIDE,” below.
