Jessica Simpson Says She’s into ‘Younger Men at the Moment’ amid Eric Johnson Split

Jessica Simpson opened up about embracing her inner cougar amid her split from ex Eric Johnson.

In an interview with Extra on Thursday, Oct. 16, the “Breadcrumbs” revealed what her dating life looks like these days while attending the premiere of All’s Fair in Los Angeles.

While discussing her cameo on the show, which stars Kim KardashianGlenn CloseSarah PaulsonTeyana TaylorNiecy Nash-Betts and Naomi Watts, Simpson, 45, dug into the status of her love life.

The fashion designer and recording artist was discussing how the role allowed her to tap into her dramatic acting skills — and what it was like with her on-camera paramour.

Rick Springfield is my love interest, so I got to get down and dirty with ‘Jesse’s Girl’… that was interesting. I have never made out with a man that much older than me. It wasn’t terrible,” said Simpson.

When asked if playing opposite Springfield, 76, piqued her interest about dating older men, Simpson said she had experienced the opposite.

“I think I’m into younger men at the moment. When you’re newly separated… I feel like younger guys kinda like the confidence of an older women, I’m discovering,” she said.

Simpson added, “I am having fun!”

At the premiere, Simpson also spoke to PEOPLE about how she had “no idea” how she landing her role on the legal drama.

“It has nothing to do with anything I’ve ever done before. So I jumped into it with all my guts. I had so much fun,” she said.

According to Simpson, her time on set allowed her to discover “a lot about myself and what I was capable of.”

“I didn’t know I could cry on cue at all. I had no idea. It’s hard for me to cry in real life. I’m very strong. I’ll cry if I’m proud of something, but not feeling sorry for myself or feeling defeated,” she said.

Simpson and Johnson, 46, announced their separation in January, and told PEOPLE in a statement at the time that they had been “living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage.”

Johnson was spotted without his wedding ring in November, and a source told PEOPLE that the couple “very much live separate lives.”

Simpson and Johnson initially met in 2010 and married in 2014. They share three children: daughters Maxwell Drew, 13, and Birdie Mae, 6, and son Ace Knute, 12.
