Jeremy Strong may soon be getting a perm and rocking a gold chain.
The Oscar nominee and Emmy winner is the top choice to play Mark Zuckerberg in Aaron Sorkin’s “The Social Network Part II,” another hyper-literate examination of the dark side of Silicon Valley. Strong would be taking over the role of the Facebook founder from Jesse Eisenberg, who earned an Academy Award nomination for his performance in 2010’s “The Social Network,” which Sorkin wrote and David Fincher directed. Sorkin will direct the sequel in addition to handling screenplay duties.
Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White are circling other lead roles in the follow-up. No formal offers have been made.
“The Social Network” followed the creation of Facebook and the metamorphosis of Zuckerberg from nerdy Harvard student to driven tech mogul. The sequel is based on “The Facebook Files” from Jeff Horwitz. Published by the Wall Street Journal in 2021, the articles examined Facebook’s harmful impact on teens and its use as a source of misinformation.
Strong was nominated for an Oscar for playing Roy Cohn in “The Apprentice.” He is best known for playing Kendall Roy, the troubled son of a media mogul, in HBO’s “Succession.” Strong next appears as Jon Favreau, Bruce Springsteen’s manager, in “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.” Other film credits include “Armageddon Time,” “The Trial of the Chicago 7 ” and “The Gentlemen.” On stage, Strong won a Tony for “Enemy of the People.”
