Jeff Hiller’s Surprise Comedy Win For ‘Somebody Somewhere’

Jeff Hiller took home the award for supporting actor in a comedy series for his role in Somebody Somewhere at the 2025 Emmy Awards on Sunday, marking his first win at the awards show.

“I feel like I’m gonna cry because the past 25 years I’ve been like, ‘World, I wanna be an actor’ and the world’s like, ‘Maybe computers,’” Hiller said at the beginning of his acceptance speech. He then thanked HBO for “putting a show about sweaty, middle aged people on the same network as the sexy teens of Euphoria.”

Hiller went on to thank the show’s writers for penning a show “about connecting and love in this time when compassion is seen as a weakness.”

“Thank you to my sweet husband and my family for never laughing at me. And most of all, thank you Bridget Everett,” he said of the show’s star. “You’ve changed my life and you told so many people to believe in themselves and they do.”

In a surprising victory, Hiller beat out The Studio‘s Ike Barinholtz, The Four Seasons‘ Colman Domingo, Shrinking‘s Harrison Ford, The Bear‘s Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Shrinking‘s Michael Urie and Saturday Night Live‘s Bowen Yang for the award.

In addition to best supporting actor in a comedy, Somebody Somewhere was nominated for best writer for a comedy series at the awards show.

Prior to the awards show, Hiller spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about his nomination and revealed he was excited to celebrate with the other first-time nominees. “Katherine LaNasa on The Pitt also got nominated, and she’s this person who’s been trying to be an actor for a zillion years, and now she’s on this crazy [successful] show, and she plays that role so beautifully,” he said in August. “She reached out to me over Instagram, and I was so touched by that.”

Nate Bargatze is hosting the 2025 Emmy Awards, which are being held at the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles. The awards show is airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ from 5-8 p.m. PT/8-11 p.m. ET.
