For his next trick, Jaxson Dart will … ?
The rookie Giants quarterback has shined through two preseason games. There was the opener against the Bills in Buffalo, where he completed 12 of 19 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown. Then he was nearly perfect at home against the Jets — completing 14 of 16 passes (including 13 in a row) for 137 yards and a touchdown while rushing for a touchdown as well.
The excitement around him has grown exponentially. Teammates and coaches are raving about his “aura” and off-the-field personality. Head coach Brian Daboll is giving him more and more reps with the starting offense during practice. He is saying all the right things to the media.
“He’s got a kind of swagger and aura and element to him that he’s the everyman,” assistant GM Brandon Brown said on Tuesday, the latest in a stream of almost over-the-top praise of Dart coming from the team. “He can connect with the skill guys, to the linemen, to the receivers, to the DBs, and it doesn’t matter old, young or vet. He’s got that cool way about him that guys cling to.”
