Jannik Sinner had ‘revenge’ message for Anna Wintour — then ruthlessly carried it out

Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner was heard telling longtime “Vogue” editor Anna Wintour about his plan to seek revenge on Alexander Bublik before routing the Kazakhstan player, 6-1, 6-1, 6-1, on Monday night to return to the U.S. Open quarterfinals.

Prior to the match, the No. 1-ranked player in men’s tennis met with Wintour, as well as actor Rami Malek, on the court at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

“It’s time for revenge,” Sinner, 24, said while smiling.

Sinner lost to Bublik in a warmup tournament before Wimbledon that took place in June in Halle, Germany.

He avenged the loss with a Round of 16 victory over No. 23 Bublik that took just 1 hour and 21 minutes — the second-shortest completed men’s match in the U.S. Open.

Sinner also posed with Wintour, who is a regular VIP at the final Grand Slam of the tennis season, and Malek, as seen in the video.

The moment came before Tuesday’s announcement that Chloe Malle, the daughter of actor Candice Bergen and director Louis Malle, will succeed Wintour as the head of editorial content of Vogue‘s U.S. edition.

Wintour stepped aside in June as the magazine’s top editor after 37 years.

Sinner — who is looking to become the first back-to-back winner at the Open since Roger Federer was crowned from 2004-08 — will play Lorenzo Musetti in Wednesday’s quarterfinal.

“[Bublik] had a very tough match the last match, playing five sets, finishing very late,” Sinner said in his on-court interview. “Today, he didn’t serve as good as he usually serves.

“… Overall, I’m very, very happy. The first time this year I can play a night match here [in New York] and it makes so, so big a difference.”

Sinner was linked to Danish model Laila Hasanovic amid his title defense at the 2025 U.S. Open.

Following a third-round victory over Denis Shapovalov on Saturday, cameras captured Sinner on his phone, where some eagle-eyed fans claimed his wallpaper featured a snapshot of Hasanovic.

The pair have yet to address the buzz.

Sinner also confirmed his split from fellow tennis star Anna Kalinskaya during a press conference at the Italian Open in May.
