Boo! Evan Rachel Wood isn’t rejoining her coven of witches in the Practical Magic sequel. But it’s not because she wasn’t down to rewear a witch’s gown; she said on Instagram that Warner Bros. decided to go in another direction. “I am getting asked about this a lot, so l’ll just clear it up now;I was not asked to come back and be in the #PracticalMagic sequel. l offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line,” Wood wrote on July 12. “I was told they are re-casting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters.” Wood played Kylie, the eldest daughter of Sally (Sandra Bullock), who was a free-spirited young woman who closely resembled her Aunt Gilly (Nicole Kidman).

While there isn’t explicit confirmation of who will play Kylie in the sequel, Joey King has recently been cast as one of Sally’s daughters. Her on-screen sister, Alexandra Artrip, has stepped away from acting since her childhood, so it’s assumed her role will be recast as well. As for the rest of the Owens family, Dianne West and Stockard Channing are, in fact, reprising their roles as Aunties Frances and Jet. Maybe Wood can come back as a special cameo of sorts; there’s plenty of room for more witches, even if the movie’s going in a different creative direction.
