iPhone 18 Pro Max will be thicker and heavier than ever, says leaker

Apple went all-in on the ‘Pro’ angle with its iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, making the models thicker and heavier than their predecessors. Now, one leaker says the same thing will happen against next year with the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Leak says iPhone 18 Pro Max will be heaviest iPhone ever

This fall’s iPhone 17 lineup pit ultra-thin against ultra-thick.

With sales of the ultra-thin iPhone Air disappointing, and iPhone 17 Pro models selling exceptionally well, thick has clearly won out.

And Apple, it seems, plans to lean harder into what users want.

Leaker Instant Digital has just posted on Weibo about the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and he says it will be even thicker and heavier than the 17 Pro Max.

Specifically, the post says iPhone 18 Pro Max will weigh over 240g, making it the heaviest iPhone ever.

For comparison, iPhone 17 Pro Max weighs 233g, and iPhone 16 Pro Max weighs 227g. The last heaviest was iPhone 14 Pro Max at 240g, but it sounds like next year’s model will exceed even that.

Why the extra weight?

Instant Digital says the model will get slightly thicker than its predecessor. Perhaps, like it did this year, Apple plans to add an even bigger battery.

9to5Mac’s Take

Personally, I’m a very happy iPhone Air owner. While I’m glad the thick Pro model iPhones exist for people who need extra battery, the thought of an iPhone 18 Pro Max that’s even heavier than the iPhone 14 Pro Max is not at all appealing to me.

That said, sales numbers clearly show that I’m in the minority. Lots of users want the biggest, longest lasting iPhone possible, and it’s a good move for Apple to deliver that.

How do you feel about the iPhone 18 Pro Max getting even thicker and heavier? Let us know in the comments.
