iPhone 17 Pro case has surprising name after FineWoven mess, box hints at new Apple accessory

A year after discontinuing the rather disastrous FineWoven iPhone case, Apple will reportedly take a second shot at an alternative premium to leather cases. The latest development is the alleged name, and a potentially new Apple accessory that may be sold separately.

TechWoven is the new case material name, says leaker Majin Bu, because a callback to FineWoven invokes such fond memories.

The leaker previously shared shots of the new material, which appears to have less velvet-like smoothness and more of textile roughness.

As a reminder, these premium case options are replacements for leather, which Apple dropped a few years ago in service of its Apple 2030 carbon neutral ambitions.

But back to TechWoven, Majin Bu shares shots of several alleged Apple product package clones that show options in black, brown, blue, green, and purple.

Based on the appearance, Apple’s new material may be based on something like rPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate), a textile made from repurposed plastic bottles. The eco-friendly fabric reduces reliance on virgin plastics and lowers carbon emissions compared to standard polyester.

This time Majin Bu adds that the TechWoven option will include the lanyard holes on either side of the bottom, like Apple’s silicone case options.

Also of note: the purportedly cloned packaging says “Compatible with Crossbody Strap,” which suggests Apple may sell a first-party accessory that works with these cases. Crossbody Strap sounds more like something you wear around your torso than a wrist lanyard, although both should work.

However, these aren’t actual Apple phone case boxes, Majin Bu says, but references that “are almost always 1:1 clones of original models.”

Is Crossbody Strap real? Is it an Apple accessory, or something Apple has given to Belkin or Incase? We should find out soon. Apple will likely announce the iPhone 17 event next week ahead of the rumored September 9 event date.
