iOS 26 will give iPhone 16 owners a new camera capability

Yesterday during its iPhone 17 introduction, Apple showed off a brand new ‘Bright’ Photographic Style for users. But it turns out, iOS 26 brings the same new feature to certain iPhone 16 models too.

New ‘Bright’ Photographic Style is coming to iPhone 16

One of the tentpole features of the iPhone 16 last year was next-generation Photographic Styles.

Photographic Styles might seem like just a marketing term for filters. But Apple’s latest version that launched on iPhone 16 is technically quite different.

Rather than applying edits to a photo after the fact, your chosen Photographic Style impacts Apple’s image processing pipeline at the time a photo is taken—and is reflected in the Camera app’s viewfinder before you even snap a shot.

Apple showed off a brand new Photographic Style alongside the iPhone 17: ‘Bright.’

The new Bright style “brightens skin tones and applies a pop of vibrance across the image.”

Though Apple pitched it as an iPhone 17 feature, the ‘Bright’ style is also coming to the following:

  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max

Each of these models gains the new style via iOS 26.

If you’re running the iOS 26 RC build, you can try out the new Bright style now. For everyone else, iOS 26 launches next week on Monday, September 15.

I gave Photographic Styles a try when the iPhone 16 first launched, but ended up sticking with the Default option. I’m interested to give them another look, though, and see if this new Bright style might win me over.

Which Photographic Style do you currently use? Will you give the Bright option a try? Let us know in the comments.
