iOS 26 gives Apple’s Reminders app a new, faster way to add tasks

Apple’s Reminders app is getting a fresh Liquid Glass look in iOS 26, plus a handful of other new features. One standout addition enables you to create new reminders faster than ever, here’s how it works.

‘New Reminder’ control in iOS 26 enables fast task creation without opening the app

I’ve tried many task managers over the years, and while they all have their strengths and weaknesses, one of the most important details to me is task input.

Creating new tasks should be quick and easy, and if it’s not, I’ll likely find a new app.

Apple’s Reminders app has gotten better on this front in the last several years. But there’s a change coming in iOS 26 that makes creating reminders even faster than ever.

Reminders now offers a ‘New Reminder’ control that can be added to several places:

  • Action button
  • Lock Screen
  • Control Center

This ‘New Reminder’ control provides a popup panel where you can quickly type out a new task, including adding due dates, flags, and more.

The appeal is simple: by assigning the new control to convenient locations, you can quickly create tasks without opening the full Reminders app.

Some users may add the control to Control Center or their Lock Screen, but I’ve found it especially useful when assigned to the iPhone’s Action button.

Reminders’ iOS 26 addition is perfect for the Action button

When the Action button is set to trigger ‘New Reminder,’ you can easily jot down a reminder at any time in mere seconds.

Whether you’re on your Lock Screen, Home Screen, or actively using another app, the Action button is the quickest way to create a new reminder.

The popup panel supports natural language input for due dates, and includes quick access to important fields like:

  • Assigned List
  • Notes
  • Date
  • Location
  • Flag

If you’ve been unsure what to use your iPhone’s Action button for—perhaps especially now that there’s a dedicated Camera Control button too—the ‘New Reminder’ control is a great option.
