AJ Lee returned to the ring at WWE WrestlePalooza and fans weren’t the only ones thrilled to see her back. The former Divas Champion not only impressed the crowd in Indianapolis, but she also earned respect from those behind the curtain.
After she and CM Punk teamed up against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch in a wild mixed tag match that saw everything from suicide dives to broken announce tables, the locker room’s response was glowing. According to those in WWE via Fightful Select, AJ didn’t look rusty at all despite nearly a decade away from the ring.
“We’ve heard the backstage reception to AJ Lee’s first match back was very positive. Those that we spoke to in WWE felt she did really well.”
That reaction speaks volumes considering the intensity of the match. Lee went toe-to-toe with Becky Lynch, hitting a Thesz Press, spin kick, crossbody, and ultimately locking in her signature Black Widow submission that forced “The Man” to tap out. Fans inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse chanted “You’ve Still Got It!” throughout the contest, and it turns out the sentiment carried backstage too.
AJ’s last WWE match before this came all the way back in March 2015, teaming with Naomi and Paige on RAW. Nearly ten years later, she proved she could still hang with today’s top stars—and apparently, her peers took notice.
Do you think AJ Lee should stick around for a longer run in WWE after this performance? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
