The September 3 edition of AEW Dynamite featured a lot of solid moments from top to bottom. Following the show, it’s been revealed that there were several interesting names backstage as well.
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, the 2300 Arena for AEW Dynamite has never looked better. The lighting, stage setup, and overall production gave the famous venue one of its best presentations ever, even compared to the old ECW days or when WWE ran shows there.
One big change was that AEW added bleachers across from the hard camera just for their residency. This gave the arena more energy and brought back the old ECW vibe, though the bleachers won’t stay after AEW leaves. The entrance was also placed close to where the original ECW entrance used to be, clearly as a tribute to the arena’s history.
Every AEW show at the 2300 Arena has been sold out ahead of time, with about 900 fans per night. While the building is known for its ECW past, the crowd was mostly a younger AEW audience rather than longtime ECW fans. Arena staff were very happy with AEW, saying the company’s management and crew were the most respectful and easy to work with compared to other promotions that have been there in recent years.
There were other moments of note, too. Ian Riccaboni was at the taping in case commentary help was needed. Fans in the building gave a big cheer when AEW announced that its pay-per-views are coming to HBO Max. Local names like LSG, CPA, The Blue Meanie and his wife, and Veda Scott were also spotted. AEW even sold Philly-themed merchandise, including exclusive designs for each week of their residency.
The only downside was that wrestler Hologram looked to be limping after his match at the ROH taping.
AEW’s September 3 Dynamite at the 2300 Arena wasn’t just a normal wrestling show. It honored ECW’s history while adding a modern look, bringing together both old and new fans for a memorable night. So it’s clear AEW’s residency is going well so far.
