On Monday, Intel said it had planned to lay off 529 employees.

In its revised WARN letter the company said the lay offs will begin Tuesday, July 15 and “are expected to be permanent.”

It listed the facilities that will be impacted.

Laid off employees will receive nine weeks of pay and benefits, the company said.

In the first quarter of this year, Intel reported flat revenue.

In a message to employees in April CEO Lip-Bu Tan said the company faces a “volatile and uncertain macroeconomic environment.” And he said the company needed to “take swift actions to get back on track.”

In his message he said the company needed to get back to its roots and refocus on engineering.

He also said the company needed to reduce its organizational complexity.

“There is no way around the fact that these critical changes will reduce the size of our workforce,” he wrote.

Intel is expected to report its second-quarter financial results on Thursday, July 24.
