How Wrexham’s new record revenue compares to best and worst Championship teams, gap is staggering

Early in 2025, it was reported that Wrexham were worth £100m – a valuation that has since increased a great deal.

Reynolds and Mac want to sell a stake in the Welsh powerhouse so they can be more competitive in higher divisions.

And that report stated that the Red Dragons were now valued at a whopping £350m.

It comes after Wrexham posted a record turnover of nearly £27m for their 2023/24 season in League Two, but a new record is expected this season.

Wrexham are now competing in the Championship, which is expected to bring in a whole new stream of revenue sources.

There is a significant increase in TV money; matchday revenue should also increase, as should commercial revenue.

It was reported by one financial expert recently that Wrexham expect to earn £50m during their first campaign in the Championship.

It would be a new club record, but still wouldn’t bring them close to the top end of the second tier.

A report from ESPN has now shed some light on the type of revenue clubs have been earning in the Championship.

And they say that in 2023/24, which is the latest set of accounts available for any UK side, the highest revenue recorded by a Championship club was £127.6m, more than double what Wrexham expect to earn in this campaign.

However, while they are unlikely to be competing with the very top teams, they are well above the bottom end of clubs, with the lowest revenue recorded £16.6m.

Wrexham squad value vs Championship teams

Wrexham have only just won promotion to the Championship, but Reynolds and Mac plan to reach the Premier League by the end of 2026/27.

They have set about making big changes to their squad this summer, with eight players signed.

But Wrexham’s squad value remains some way short of the very top-end Championship teams.

Going into the new season, Wrexham’s squad is worth €28.70m (around £25m).
