Somewhere on a beach in Cousins, Belly Conklin is quaking. On Monday, Cristiano Ronaldo and his long-term girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez announced their engagement with an absolute behemoth of a ring. Ronaldo, who’s been dating Rodríguez for nine years and shares four children with her, appears to have proposed to his partner with a rock the size of my head. Maybe he’s sorry it took so long?
Congratulations aside, we obviously need to know how much this ring costs, so we turned to jeweler Maggi Simpkins (who made a million-dollar ring herself). Simpkins estimates the oval beauty to be somewhere between 25 and 30 carats. (The average engagement ring is between one and two carats.) As for the price? While Simpkins says it’s “nearly impossible” to guess because price depends so much on quality, but she speculates that it’s somewhere between $2 million and $4 million. Well, Rodríguez better not clap too hard at a soccer match. It’s probably safer to just never leave the house.
That estimate isn’t even taking into account what appears to be two smaller stones surrounding the main gargantuan diamond. Simpkins does note that “oval cuts tend to have more finger coverage than other shapes of the same weight,” and though it might appear huge, there’s a scale issue — we don’t really know how big her hand or fingers are. In other words, we need more photos, and we need them now.
