How $893.5M Powerball winner plans to spend his big prize

A Missouri Powerball player who won half of a $1.787 billion jackpot has revealed what he plans to do with his winnings.

The player, who was not identified, won the largest prize ever won by a Missouri Lottery player on Sept. 6. He split the prize with a player in Texas.

He said he plans to take time off and enjoy the experience after winning in the record 42-drawing jackpot run.

“I’m going to just do me for a year,” the winner said, adding that he’s looking forward to spending time with his wife, who now also plans to reduce her workload because of the win.

“I’m like a homebody. The perfect day is sitting at home doing what I do – relaxing,” he said. “She’s (his wife) going to drag me out of town now.”

While claiming his prize at Missouri Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City, he noted such a large win was still hard to fathom.

“I’m a millionaire, a multi-millionaire, and I’m doing laundry last night…It’s the best problem I’ve ever had,” he continued, describing the sleepless nights between the time he realized his ticket was a winner and the day he made the trip to Jefferson City.

The Quick Pick ticket he purchased at QuikTrip, 12100 Lusher Road in St. Louis, was one of two tickets nationwide to match all six numbers drawn on Sept. 6. QuikTrip received a $50,000 bonus for selling the jackpot winning ticket.

Each ticketholder won approximately $893.5 million pre-tax, with the option to claim the full prize amount over 30 payments or to receive one lump-sum payment of roughly half the jackpot amount.

The Missouri winner chose the one-time payment of about $410.3 million.
