‘House Of Cards’ Star Robin Wright Reveals ‘S**tshow’ Reason She’s Leaving The U.S.

Robin Wright might soon join several other celebrities in leaving the United States behind.

The “House of Cards” star has spent her career in Hollywood, directing, producing and starring in a litany of acclaimed projects, but revealed Sunday that she’s spent the last few years in England — and wants to permanently move to its countryside.

The actor didn’t mention President Donald Trump or the distressing policies marking his second administration. Wright, who has lived in the Chiltern Hills outside London in recent years, pointed to the seeming decline in traditional American life as her reason.

“I love being in this country,” she told the English paper. “There’s a freedom of self here. People are so kind. They’re living. They’re not in the car in traffic, panicked on a phone call, eating a sandwich. That’s most of America. Everything’s rush, competition and speed.”

Wright argued that the sounds of construction surrounding her seaside Los Angeles home have nothing on the soothing bird chirps of her newfound mornings in the Chilterns, but also noted that she met a new man — and has been dating British architect Henry Smith.

“I love the quiet,” she told the Times. “And I’ve met my person. Finally.”

Wright is joining numerous stars in an apparent exodus from the United States, including former daytime talk show hosts Ellen DeGeneres and Rosie O’Donnell, who respectively moved to England and Ireland — after Trump’s reelection in November.

“Sopranos” star Joe Pantoliano and “Desperate Housewives” alum Eva Longoria are either considering a permanent move or making sure they have an alternate home base.

Wright met Smith at a countryside pub after his dog started sniffing around her seat — and quickly fell in love. She described the architect during her interview as a “good, decent adult” and “sweetheart.”

Robin Wright said she's finally "seen and loved" for who she is by her new partner.

Wright was previously in an “exciting and difficult” 14-year marriage with fellow actor Sean Penn, and while she later walked down the aisle with French fashion executive Clément Giraudet in 2018, the actor cited “irreconcilable differences” in filing for divorce in 2022.

“I’m seen and loved for who I am,” Wright told the Times about Smith. “It’s so relaxing.”

The native Texan is currently starring in “The Girlfriend,” a psychological thriller series for Prime Video. Wright, who directed the first three episodes, said she and Smith are hoping to take time off soon — to move to the English seaside with their dogs.

“It’s liberating to be done,” she told the Times. “Be done with searching, looking and getting 60 percent of what you wanted.”
