NASHVILLE – Titans President of Football Operations Chad Brinker and General Manager Mike Borgonzi held a press conference today at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park, after players reported for training camp.
The first practice is scheduled for Wednesday.
Here’s a look at some of the hot topics:
– Veteran edge rusher Lorenzo Carter has informed the Titans of his plans to retire. Here’s that story: CLICK HERE. Borgonzi said there’s a chance the team could add another edge rusher at some point.
-The Titans are placing cornerback L’Jarius Sneed and center Lloyd Cushenberry on the team’s Physically Unable to Perform list to start training camp. Here’s that story: CLICK HERE.
-Borgonzi was asked about quarterback Will Levis deciding to have season-ending shoulder surgery. Borgonzi said, “we knew there was a possibility that (Will) could have the surgery. … We were aware of it.” Borgonzi said rest and rehab was the recommendation from the team’s medical staff at the end of last season, and they recommended Levis push through the offseason. Brinker said Levis was a full-go this offseason in OTAs and minicamp. With Levis still dealing with discomfort, he opted to have surgery.
-Borgonzi said receiver Treylon Burks is good to go for camp, and he’s cleared to practice. Borgonzi noted Burks is a talented player who has worked hard. Borgonzi said Burks came back in great shape, ready to go.
-Brinker said the team has a lot of work to do at a lot of positions, and evaluations will take place on a regular basis as the team constantly looks to upgrade the roster.
-The Titans plan to go through camp with just three quarterbacks – Cam Ward, Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle. “We feel good right now about the quarterback room,” Borgonzi said. “Right now, we don’t see adding anybody right now.”
-Brinker said he has seen “tremendous growth” in head coach Brian Callahan, who is headed into his second season with the team. “We believe in Brian,” Brinker said. “I think he has done a really good job heading into this (season).”
-Borgonzi said rookie safety Kevin Winston Jr. has worked really hard this offseason, and is “ready to hit the ground running. He is in great shape right now.” Borgonzi said Winston is “100 percent” after suffering a knee injury in college at Penn State.
