The second week of October is here, and Google has yet to roll out this month’s security patch to compatible Pixel phones. The update should arrive any day now, but ahead of its rollout, Verizon has revealed the changelog for the new build.
Verizon lists the October update for Pixel phones with the September 2025 security patch (via 9to5Google). For the Pixel 7, 8, and 9 series, the update carries build number BP3A.251005.004.B1, while the Pixel 10’s build is BD3A.251005.003.W3. Verizon’s release notes mention only two user interface–related changes for all Pixel phones, which are as follows:
- Addressed an issue that caused a semi-transparent background to appear after the camera was launched.
- Addressed an issue where the system crashed when starting or stopping casting with the Media Output Switcher.
Device-specific fixes include resolving the issue where the flashlight status didn’t appear in the At a Glance widget on the Pixel 9 and 10 series. For the Pixel 7, the upcoming build will address a “display and graphics issue that caused the screen to flicker or shut down under certain conditions.”
Pixel’s October update won’t bring any major changes
Android 16 QPR2 — the next major Feature Drop of the OS — will only land in December. So, the October update will be a relatively minor one for Pixels, as evident from Verizon’s release notes above. And this should not be surprising, especially since the September update was a big Feature Drop, which introduced Material 3 Expressive.
Still, some Pixel 10 users, frustrated by the phone’s underwhelming GPU performance in benchmarks and games, might feel disappointed with the October firmware being a minor update. While it may not completely fix the issue, Google could potentially improve things by updating the outdated PowerVR GPU drivers. The company has done something like this before. However, it seems such a change won’t arrive until Android 16 QPR2 or later.
While there’s no word on when Google will release the update, it should go live sooner rather than later. Since Verizon has already published the release notes, the October update for Pixel phones will most likely go live later today (October 8).
