We have just received the Control Group Warbond, which has added some neat weapons and stratagems to the game. Judging by Arrowhead’s typical release schedule, the next Warbond should coincide with the launch of HD2 on Xbox consoles. We don’t know what weapons are planned for the next bundle, but the Helldivers 2 CEO has stressed Arrowhead “won’t rest” until they deliver the most exciting weapon to have leaked.
Helldivers 2 CEO “won’t rest” until Arrowhead release chainsword
On the Helldivers official Discord, Arrowhead CEO, Shams Jorjani, was asked if “primary melee is in the works,” with the user adding they “really want a very large sword”. To this, Jorjani responded, “we [Arrowhead] won’t rest until some kind of chainsword is in the game. You know, for the elegant kills”.
A chainsword would be wicked, and the good news is that it has previously leaked. Back in early February, Iron_S1ghts revealed the silhouette of a Chainsword for melee, and everyone has naturally assumed it could be part of a collaboration with Warhammer 40K. Either that or it could be an entirely original weapon heavily inspired by Warhammer.
Shams Jorjani has previously said he “loves” the idea of HD2 and Warhammer collaborating, so it’s not a hypothetical crossover that has been rejected, unlike lightsabers from Star Wars. Other crossovers Arrowhead have admitted interest for include Dead Space and Crysis.
As for the next Warbond, YouTuber, Thordan, has speculated the possibility of it being a crossover with Gears of War. This is because Helldivers 2 lands on Xbox on August 26th, which is the same day Gears of War Reloaded lands on PS5.
There is no chainsword for Gears of War, but there is a chainsaw bayonet so that is a possibility. However, it seems unlikely that’s what Iron_S1ghts’ leak alluded to as the silhouette almost perfectly resembles The Chainsword from Warhammer.
We will have to wait and see whether the next Warbond is original or a licensed crossover. It’s good to hear that Arrowhead are wanting to add a chainsword to the game, and, when it does eventually arrive, we cannot wait to bask in the blood of enemies.
