STARBASE, Texas — Watching a rocket launch from afar seems amazing enough. Imagine the view from under the launch pad.
SpaceX’s 403-foot-tall Starship system lifted off from southern Texas last week.
Widely seen footage showed the blastoff from a distance, but another video provides a fiery view from a camera on the launch mount under the rocket thrusters.
Commenters seemed impressed, calling it “really cool footage from below” and pointing out that the camera view is arguably as amazing as the launch itself.
“I’m not sure which is more mind-blowing, the rocket or the camera that can record that up-close without any damage,” one commenter mused.
Once in space, Starship successfully deployed its first batch of eight mock Starlink satellites. It also tested new heat shield tiles on its plunge back through Earth’s atmosphere about an hour after liftoff.
This 10th test flight broke a streak of three previous testing failures.
