Last week, Microsoft revealed an official remake of the first Halo game in Unreal Engine 5, called Halo: Campaign Evolved. So, here are two videos that compare this remake with the remastered and original versions of Halo: Combat Evolved.
These videos will give you an idea of the changes between the remake, the remaster, and the original version. So, if you are a big Halo fan, you should definitely check them out.
In my opinion, the remake looks superior to both the remaster and the original versions. This is coming from someone who has played all versions of the first Halo game. Still, if you don’t like it, you can skip it and replay the remaster or the original. These will still be available, even when the remake comes out.
Halo is a game I was really looking forward to back in the late 90s. This was one of the games that made 3DFX finally add support for 32-bit colors in its Voodoo graphics cards. It was a game that looked beyond anything we’ve seen. It was also a game that mesmerized everyone when it was showcased at E3 2000. And, it was a game that made a lot of PC gamers hate Microsoft for making it exclusive to the first Xbox.
Halo: Campaign Evolved will be a faithful modernized remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign. The game will have the entire campaign of the first Halo game, as well as three brand-new prequel missions featuring the Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson.
Players will also have access to more weapons, vehicles, enemies, and special “Skulls.” These Skulls are optional modifiers that make combat more fun and challenging. On top of that, the game will offer new tactics and tons of replayability.
Halo: Campaign Evolved will support solo and up to 4-player online co-op. There will be full crossplay and cross-progression support. This means that PC gamers will be able to play with their console friends, whether they are on PlayStation or Xbox.
Halo Studios has also added some quality-of-life improvements. Players can now sprint, aim, and fight with smoother, more precise controls. For the first time in Halo: CE, you can use 9 extra classic weapons from the series, like the Energy Sword, Battle Rifle, and Needle Rifle.
Microsoft plans to release Halo: Campaign Evolved sometime in 2026.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
