Arrowhead Studios seems to be teasing Halo 3: ODST content for Helldivers 2, as the popular co-op shooter makes the jump to Xbox Series X|S at the end of the month.
At the end of a newly uploaded trailer, titled Bring the Boom, a drop pod can be seen landing in a city at night, which very closely resembles the overall tone and vibes of the Xbox 360 shooter. This trailer has been uploaded to the PlayStation YouTube channel as well as the Xbox one, so this isn’t a Microsoft exclusive or anything. The Halo 3: ODST theme song is also played over the footage, essentially confirming this is indeed a tease.
Helldivers 2 has previously collaborated with the Killzone franchise, allowing you to earn gear themed around the FPS series. If this is indeed another collaboration, this time with Halo, then you may get the chance to dress as an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper.
Halo 3: ODST was a 2009 spin-off to the main Halo 3 game that allowed you to freely explore the city of New Mombasa as an ODST. Mostly set at night, it took place during the events of Halo 2. The new Helldivers 2 trailer above heavily evokes the game.
Previous games in the Halo series are still heavily rumoured to be coming to PS5 at some point, so there’s a pretty good chance you’ll get to actually play Halo 3: ODST on a PS5 in the future.
